Louver does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal information or user data. Everything happens locally in your browser.

Louver is a browser extension designed to enhance the privacy of WhatsApp Web by preventing sensitive information from being visible to people nearby. This Privacy Policy explains what information Louver collects, how it is used, and how your data is protected.

Data collection

Specifically, Louver does not collect:

  • Personal information
  • Email addresses or contact information
  • WhatsApp messages or conversations
  • Chat names or profile photos
  • Media shared through WhatsApp
  • Browsing history
  • Location information
  • Device identifiers
  • Usage analytics
  • Crash reports
  • Advertising identifiers

Louver does not send any data to external servers.

Local storage

To provide its functionality, Louver stores a limited amount of information locally on your device using Chrome's extension storage. This may include:

  • Selected privacy mode
  • Blur strength preference
  • Reveal behavior (Hold or Hover to Reveal)
  • Automatic lock preferences
  • Theme preferences
  • A salted cryptographic hash of your PIN

These settings remain on your device and are not transmitted to the developer or any third party.

PIN security

If you enable PIN protection:

  • Your PIN is never stored in plain text
  • Louver stores only a salted PBKDF2 hash for verification
  • The original PIN cannot be retrieved from the stored hash

Permissions

Louver requests only the permissions required to perform its intended functionality.

Used to apply privacy protections within WhatsApp Web, including blurring chat names, profile photos, message previews, media, and conversations.

storage

Used to save your preferences locally, including privacy settings and the hashed PIN.

idle

Used only to detect when your device has been inactive so Louver can automatically lock WhatsApp Web if you enable that feature.

Data sharing

Louver does not:

  • Share user data with third parties
  • Sell user data
  • Rent user data
  • Transfer user data
  • Use user data for advertising
  • Use user data for profiling

Analytics and tracking

Louver does not include:

  • Analytics services
  • Telemetry
  • User tracking
  • Behavioral profiling
  • Advertising SDKs
  • Third-party trackers

Remote code

Louver does not download or execute remote code. All extension functionality is packaged with the extension distributed through the Chrome Web Store.

Children's privacy

Louver does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Data security

Louver is designed with a privacy-first approach.

  • All processing occurs locally within your browser
  • No user data is transmitted to external servers
  • The PIN is protected using industry-standard cryptographic hashing

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect improvements to Louver or changes in applicable laws. Any updates will be published with a revised effective date.
